Manual Installation of the ALEKS plug-in on MacOS X
To manually download and install the plug-in on MacOS X, download the ALEKS package file and save it on your computer in the "Java VM Extension" folder.
This folder is usually:
/<user>/Library/Java/Extensions/
NOTES:
-
<user> should be the name of the user account for which the plug-in is being installed.
-
If you computer is on a network shared environment, see important Network Shared Environment notice.
Installation instructions:
-
Ensure that your computer and browser meet the minimum requirements.
-
Point your mouse at the link below. Then, click and hold your mouse button for about 2 seconds. If this does not work, click on alekspack10.jar while holding down the CTRL key button.
-
A pop-up menu should appear. (If you receive the error message "Smart Update failed: JAR archive has no installer file information," try again and make sure to press your mouse button for at least 2 seconds. Make sure to wait for the pop-up menu to appear before releasing your mouse button.)
-
In the pop-up menu choose "Save this link as..".
-
A new window should appear to ask you where you want to save the file.
-
Click on the button "Desktop" then go inside the folder "Macintosh HD".
-
You should now choose your "Java VM Extension" folder which is usually:
/<user>/Library/Java/Extensions/
and click on the button "Save" to start the transfer. (If you cannot save to this folder, click here.)
-
Restart your browser.
Network shared environments:
If the installation is taking place in a network shared environment, do not save the plug-in in a folder shared across the network. Doing so would impact performance greatly. If the folder /<user>/Library/Java/Extensions/ is shared across the network, you may use the following folder as an alternative location (provided it is not shared as well):
/System/Library/Java/Extensions/
