Manual Installation of the ALEKS plug-in on MacOS X (continued)

If you cannot save to the "Java VM Extension" folder:

  1. Be sure to be logged in under an account with the "admin" privileges. If you don't know how to do it, you probably didn't create any account on your Mac. This means you are logged in as the default user, who has the admin privileges.

  2. Manually download the plug-in and save it on the desktop.

  3. Go to the folder
    /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/CurrentJDK/Home/lib/

  4. Click on the folder ext (background becomes blue).

  5. Click on "File" at the top of the screen:

    File

  6. Click on "Get Info".

  7. Click on the arrow before Ownership & Permissions.

    Ownership and Permissions

  8. Click on the "locker" if it's locked.

    Locker

  9. Click on the arrows on the right of "Owner: system" which are now blue.

    Owner: system

  10. Select the account of the user currently active (ends with "Me").

    Select account

  11. If prompted, enter the password of the user currently logged in.

  12. Click on "Apply to enclosed items...", and confirm by clicking "OK".

    Apply

  13. Then open (double click) the folder ext.

  14. Copy paste the file aleksPack10.jar from the Desktop to the ext folder.

    Copy

  15. Optional: put the ownership of the ext folder back to "System" (repeat steps 4 to 12).
