Overall Experience
Before we began our homeschool journey, my son was ahead in math at the private school he attended. However, when we started homeschooling, our personalities with math clashed and he began to hate math. Then we found ALEKS! We are now ending our first full year, and while math is still not my son's favorite subject, he excels and feels like he is in control of his progress...something that is increasingly important to a 12 year old.
What challenges did your student face in math prior to using ALEKS?
He was bored. Math is not and has never been my strong point, and I couldn't keep up with him. When he started on middle school and college prep material, I knew we needed help.
What were you looking for in an online math tool?
I was searching for reputation and success, as well as something that would challenge my child while allowing him to make mistakes. I wanted him to be able to move up, but not until he's actually ready. I also needed something that he would think is fun.
What math progress have you seen in your student since using ALEKS?
My son is just hours away from finishing Pre-Algebra and we're excited. He's much more confident. He still has moments of needing help from his dad, but he is basically able to do it himself.

Overall Experience
ALEKS has been the best math program that my children have encountered. ALEKS allows one twin to excel, and provides him with critical confidence in math that he has lost. The other twin has just tested into the gifted program with very high scores on the math portion of the exam. ALEKS has been the only program to keep him challenged in math. We have been quite pleased with ALEKS.
What were you looking for in an online math tool?
The school did not have any programs to offer my gifted twin at his age, and their enrichment programs did not challenge him. My other twin had difficulty comprehending the traditional classroom math curriculum.
What math progress have you seen in your students since using ALEKS?
My gifted son has outperformed every student in the class in every math game. The reporting in ALEKS has made me aware of how gifted my son is by showing the rate that he is learning new concepts. He has always self-taught himself successfully in all subject areas, but with ALEKS, I can see how he approaches learning and track his progress.
How do your students feel about their progress in ALEKS?
My son was on a mission to get to Algebra and other college-level courses, and ALEKS is the first program that helped him to accomplish that. Both twins have grown tremendously confident in their math skills. I only wish the school had such success in teaching and instilling a love of math with their own curriculum. |
