Overall Experience
We love ALEKS! My son has always struggled in math, and when we reached Pre-Algebra he just could not grasp the concepts. We both became very frustrated. I wondered how we would ever be able to succeed in high school math so he would be prepared for college. My prayers were answered when I searched for math programs online and found ALEKS. My son actually loves it. He is doing so well with this program; I think it is because it is an online course that allows him to constantly see the progress he is making. He is motivated to keep working and often does more work without me asking him too. The explanations are fantastic and easy for us to understand. Thank you for helping my son learn to love math!
What challenges did your student face in math prior to using ALEKS?
He could not grasp the concepts presented to him, and he was missing some basic math skills needed to succeed. I did not start homeschooling him until sixth grade and he was already struggling in math.
What math progress have you seen in your student since using ALEKS?
My son's progress has been amazing! He is in tenth grade and was struggling in Pre-Algebra even after taking a remedial math course in ninth grade. Since we have started using ALEKS he has flown through Pre-Algebra and plans to work over the summer to finish Algebra 1 and get back on track for graduation. I cannot believe the difference in his attitude towards math.

Overall Experience
My son is gifted in math, so I was looking for a program that would allow him to advance at his own pace. He went through the ALEKS Mathematics - LV courses in just a few months, followed by Middle School Math Course 2 and Pre-Algebra. He just finished the third grade and is now working on Algebra 1 in ALEKS. He is very excited about math, and spends much of his spare time trying to learn even more advanced math. ALEKS allows him to learn concepts quickly and reassesses him to make sure that he retains the material. I am convinced that his progress would have been much slower, and much more labor intensive for me, if I had tried to tutor him using textbooks. I would recommend ALEKS to all parents.
What were you looking for in an online math tool?
I was looking for something that I could use to teach my son quickly and conveniently. I wanted a tool with an excellent interface that would allow my son to progress through K-12 math courses at his own pace.
What math progress have you seen in your student since using ALEKS?
My son's progress has been amazing and his enthusiasm for math has grown tremendously! His scores are above grade-level on standardized tests like the Northwest Evaluation Association's Measure of Academic Progress (NWEA MAP). This has opened up opportunities for gifted-level education for him at his school. |
