Create Quizzes that Correspond to the
Strands of Your State’s Standards

We are pleased to announce the release of a new state standards option within the ALEKS Quiz creation wizard. This new feature automatically generates quizzes based on the ALEKS topics that correspond to the state standards strand of your choice. Additionally, ALEKS will recommend a quiz length to ensure that each student receives one question for each ALEKS topic that corresponds to the chosen strand (up to 30 topics per quiz); as always, each student will receive a unique quiz based on the problem types that have been selected.

This new feature is available for the following course products:

  • Mathematics – LV 3, 4, 5, and 6
  • Essential Mathematics
  • Middle School Math Courses 1, 2 and 3
  • Pre-Algebra
  • Math Prep for California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE)
  • Math Prep for TAKS - High School Exit Exam

For more information on the ALEKS state standards quiz feature,
please view the pre-recorded online training.

Cynthia Fell, Coordinator of Gifted Programming
ALEKS has been very helpful in providing opportunities for students identified as having high-ability math skills. The program has allowed exceedingly strong math students to progress successfully through two or more years of math curricula in a short period of time.

Implementation

What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Making sure that gifted and talented students master topics before moving on to the next level, and documenting their acceleration were challenges. ALEKS allows both of these challenges to be met.

How do you implement ALEKS?
Students receive an ALEKS worksheet on Monday that is used for weekly homework. On Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, students work the whole period in ALEKS. Wednesdays are used for enrichment activities, such as problem-solving and logic puzzles. On Friday, students score their ALEKS worksheets as part of their math grade, and the rest of the time is used for enrichment, such as math games.

Grading

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
ALEKS worksheets are about 40 percent of the students' overall grade. Quizzes account for 20 percent, and problem-solving activities account for the remaining 40 percent.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
No, but we encourage students to make progress, as they tend to thrive on competition.

Learning Outcomes

Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
Students love ALEKS! They have a better foundation to accelerate into the next level of math curriculum. ALEKS provides documentation of what the student has accomplished.
