New High School Preparation for Algebra 1
Course Product Available
ALEKS High School Preparation for Algebra 1 is a new Algebra-readiness course targeted to students who lack the mathematical prerequisite skills to be successful in Algebra. This course quickly and efficiently addresses the critical mathematical skills that students must master in order to be successful in Algebra, without distracting them with content that is not essential to future success.
This course is ideal for students who may be a few years behind in their mathematical skills and who lack the preparation to be successful in Algebra. High School Preparation for Algebra 1 can be implemented as a core or supplemental curriculum for students who need aggressive remediation in order to be successful in Algebra.

New ALEKS Arithmetic Course Product Available
ALEKS is pleased to announce the release of a new Arithmetic course product with QuickTables for grades 3-6.
– View Arithmetic Course Contents By Grade –
The new ALEKS Arithmetic course focuses almost exclusively on arithmetic content, with some coverage of geometry and measurement; it does not address state standards for grades 3-6. Jason D. Buck, Teacher
My experience with ALEKS has been great! I am told by my district administration to differentiate instruction, but find it difficult to do with some of my low-level classes. ALEKS provides differentiated instruction automatically, and allows students to improve their understanding of all the concepts. It's absolutely wonderful!
Implementation
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Some students are ready for Geometry, but most are not. We are constantly trying to reteach concepts while also trying to move ahead to new content. Additionally, we are pressured by the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) test to provide enrichment courses for students who are predicted to score Below Basic. ALEKS is exactly what we need!
How do you implement ALEKS?
We are using ALEKS for our double-period math classes. One period is a traditional Geometry or Algebra 1 course, while the other period is an enrichment period designed to help students improve their math skills.
Grading
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
Since it is a separate class period, students receive a grade based on their ALEKS performance. We use a linear combination of their hours of practice time, initial assessment percentage, and cumulative assessment percentages.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
I expect students to make progress each day. I usually require them to master 1-3 topics, depending on difficulty, but some exceed that expectation. Progress is measured by the difference between the student's current percentage of mastery and their initial assessment or most recent assessment percentage.
Learning Outcomes
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
Since using ALEKS, I've seen students perform better on content from previous courses. I have also noticed that my students feel more prepared in their current math course.
