Web Visual Designer / Web Prototype Developer

Position Details:

ALEKS Corporation is a fast-growing company bringing a revolutionary assessment and learning technology to the education market. Our math, business, and science learning products are delivered exclusively through the web and are used by hundreds of thousands of students at more than 1,000 educational institutions throughout the world.

We are looking for a Visual Designer to work within our User Experience department. This individual will translate thumbnail sketches, workflow diagrams, high-level wireframes and requirements documents into visually appealing design mockups, observing methodical work practices and ensuring consistent implementation of visual design styles across all product versions. This individual will create clean and simple web layouts, color palettes, user interface elements, icons, prototypes and design documentation, as well as create and manage libraries of production files, templates, graphical components, slices and assets.

Required Education and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, art, or closely-related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional web layout and web visual design experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of web development experience in HTML, while using CSS.
  • Minimum of 2 years of work experience with Adobe suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, and/or Fireworks.
  • Design experience with interfaces for dynamics, content such as AJAX or dynamic Flash environments.
  • Basic familiarity of scripting algorithms abilities (e.g., variables, post, loops, etc.).
  • Excellent eye for color harmonies, textures, patterns, and typography in general.
  • Proven mastery of design for corporate, institutional, and Web 2.0 styles.
  • XHTML 4.0+, CSS, Dreamweaver would be acceptable, but must also know basic hand-coding in order to troubleshoot code bugs.
  • Preferred experience (not required):
    • Web design experience in education, healthcare, e-learning.
    • Experience with development in Flash with basic scripting, Flash video, and audio control (ActionScript 2.0).
    • Beginning to intermediate 3-D graphics rendering experience.
