Overall Experience:

I couldn't be happier with ALEKS; it is user-friendly and the explanations are clear. I am very pleased!

What challenges did the student face in math prior to using ALEKS?

Math textbooks are not engaging, the explanations can be hard to understand, and my children were not progressing because they are difficult to decipher.

What were you looking for in an online math tool?

I was looking for a math program that would allow my children to move at their own pace, offer review often enough so that they would retain what they had learned, and would hold their attention. We needed a program that gave explanations on the spot, as needed, and gave me feedback so I could make sure they were on track.

What math progress has the student experienced since using ALEKS?

ALEKS has taken a big burden off of my shoulders. Because of ALEKS, I don't have to prepare two separate math lessons each day and go back and forth helping each child; they just log on and take off! I see steady progress in both students.

How does the student feel about his/her progress in ALEKS?

My children are enthusiastic about filling up their pie slices, and like to check their progress regularly. My older son loves to move at a fast pace, and ALEKS allows him to do that without missing concepts or skipping important steps. My younger child likes to see the pie chart fill up and likes to challenge the timer in QuickTables. To be able to understand math and learn something new every day does wonders for their confidence. They are more positive and don't complain about doing math anymore. QuickTables has strengthened their skills so much that their regular math lessons run much more smoothly.

Are there any best practices you would like to share with other ALEKS users?

I offer rewards for finished pie slices such as a trip to our local zoo or science museum.
