ALEKS Course: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1
ALEKS has been great! As a homeschooling parent, math is always a challenge to teach in the higher grades. Our daughters are using ALEKS; one as a supplement and the other as her core curriculum for Pre-Algebra. They are loving it, especially because ALEKS allows them to move at their own pace. We are so glad we found this curriculum online because it has really helped our homeschooling experience.
What challenges did the student face in math prior to using ALEKS?
One of my daughters needs quite a bit of review, while the other was in need of a curriculum that would allow her to move at her own pace.
What were you looking for in an online math tool?
We needed a supplement that could reinforce what was learned last year for one daughter. For our other daughter we were looking at ALEKS because it provides excellent explanations and properly assesses students so that they avoid useless repetition of topics they have already mastered.
How was ALEKS implemented with other curriculum?
ALEKS is effective both as a supplemental review and as core curriculum. We are confident that our daughters are getting a better math education with ALEKS.
What math progress has the student experienced since using ALEKS?
Both of our daughters are progressing wonderfully. We see that our daughter that is using ALEKS as a supplement is finally retaining the information. Our daughter that is using ALEKS as a core curriculum is moving along at a wonderful pace and really enjoying it.
How does the student feel about his/her progress in ALEKS?
Both of my daughters enjoy being able to monitor their progress, and feel very good about their ALEKS experience.
Are there any best practices you would like to share with other ALEKS users?
We have found that the best way to use ALEKS is to set a specific amount of time for students to work on ALEKS each day.
