Arden, NC Scenario: Homeschool Core Curriculum Purpose: Improve Skills Time Spent in ALEKS: 15-30 minutes per day, 5 days per week ALEKS Course: High School Geometry Overall Experience:
After a frustrating semester of using textbooks that didn't cover all the material I was looking for, I received a flyer about ALEKS. In less than a week, I knew it would become the only math curriculum we would need. ALEKS provides clear explanations and complete coverage, and my computer-oriented daughter enjoys it much more than the workbooks.
What challenges did the student face in math prior to using ALEKS?
A major challenge my daughter faced was forgetting concepts after moving on to new ones.
What were you looking for in an online math tool?
I was looking for a program to make sure concepts learned earlier were not forgotten. I wanted a site that didn't make the student keep working on a topic after it was clear the student had mastered it. More specifically, this past year, I needed lessons in geometric proofs.
What math progress has the student experienced since using ALEKS?
I can tell my daughter understands and remembers topics much better.
How does the student feel about his/her progress in ALEKS?
My daughter is pleased to see her pie being filled in, and feels much more confident in math. I knew she could do math fine, but now, when she gets the "good job" message from ALEKS, she knows she is doing well.
