Spokane, WA Scenario: Core Curriculum Purpose: Individualized Tutoring, Preparation for Another Course or Program Time Spent in ALEKS: 2-6 hours per day, 1-5 days per week Total Time Spent Per Course: 100 hours per course ALEKS Course: College Algebra Overall Experience:
I have a hard time getting through some college level math classes, so I found ALEKS online and gave it try. It is the best thing I have come across so far to help me with math.
What challenges did the student face in math prior to using ALEKS?
As far as math goes, I need to be able to enjoy it and saturate myself in it. I have found that this learning style can present challenges due to time limitations in the classroom.
What were you looking for in an online math tool?
I needed something that explained math in one way instead of a variety of different ways. Also, I needed a program that would allow me to move through the material at my own pace, which makes it much more enjoyable; when I can enjoy the material, I tend to be more receptive to it, which helps me to grasp concepts much more easily.
What math progress has the student experienced since using ALEKS?
I believe in myself more and I have more confidence that anything is possible.
How does the student feel about his/her progress in ALEKS?
I feel good about ALEKS. It has helped me to see that I can understand math; I just needed to get out of the classroom, away from the teachers and learn math in my own way rather than someone else's! I will have to go back into the classroom, but I'm feeling stronger. ALEKS is well worth the money!
