Anchorage, AK Scenario: Core Curriculum Purpose: Test Preparation, Improve Skills Time Spent in ALEKS: 1 hour per day, 3-4 days per week Total Time Spent Per Course: 40 hours per course ALEKS Course: Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, College Algebra Overall Experience:
ALEKS is wonderful! I love the way that I can review information in ALEKS to really cement-in concepts, and get extra practice when I'm struggling with a concept.
What challenges did the student face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Math has never come easy for me. I struggled with early-on with multiplication tables and have never quite made up that ground. This was particularly heart-breaking in high school when I had to drop my physics because I didn't know enough Trigonometry. Science was one of my favorite subjects!
What were you looking for in an online math tool?
I needed a program that provided sufficient review to help me pass a pre-admission exam for a teacher credential program that I was applying for. Actually, re-learning concepts proved to be an added bonus.
What math progress has the student experienced since using ALEKS?
I passed the Praxis Pre-Professional Skills Test (PPST) in mathematics by six points; not enough of a margin to convince me that I'm a mathematical genius, but enough that I know it was work and not luck!
How does the student feel about his/her progress in ALEKS?
ALEKS is fantastic! The frequent assessments and review assignments have helped me to re-learn long forgotten concepts. I'm no longer as fearful of encountering math problems without a calculator present.
