I use ALEKS with students who scored above a 90 percent on the Wisconsin Knowledge Concepts Examination (WKCE). Out of 90 students, 15 subscriptions were purchased. Now, I am recommending it for a summer program for remediation. Also, parents are purchasing the program for home use over the summer. I have worked with other math programs, but I like ALEKS the best. ALEKS requires very little from me as a teacher. It is easy to use as a supplement to our current program. The students love it and ask me to go on it. I'm even shocked with how the remedial students have picked up on the "HELP" issues. They love to email me through ALEKS, as well.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
5 days per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
How do you implement ALEKS?
A parent recommended it for me to use.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
The students who score over a 95 percent on the WKCE use another math program in addition to ALEKS. They must show proficiency in the standards in the other math program. Once that is accomplished, they work on ALEKS for 100 percent of the class time.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I have become more reliant on the program after I saw student success.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
They just do it when they want to. I have recommended parents to purchase ALEKS for home use over the summer.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
We are just beginning to. I would like more letters or emails that I could forward to parents.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
It is not graded.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.

Are there any best practices you would like to share with other teachers implementing ALEKS?
I would like to have more training. I think that I could offer advice on how to make it a part of the current curriculum and implementation.
