ALEKS is extra practice for my students. I find it useful to the students if they put forth the effort. With ALEKS, I have seen the students a little more willing to try and get the answers right. Some have been really responsive to it and keep trying to move ahead. Parents like the idea of using ALEKS.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
There were different levels of progress in the classroom, with the slower students holding back the brighter ones. ALEKS allows the students to progress if they are ready without someone else holding them back.
How do you implement ALEKS?
ALEKS is mainly assigned for homework and time is also allowed in the computer lab if other assignments are finished.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
ALEKS is not used during the class period.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
ALEKS is assigned as a homework assignment for one hour per week, to be done however students want to complete it.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
A positive letter is sent home to parents with an explanation of how ALEKS can help students.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
ALEKS is part of the homework and counted as one assignment per week.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
One hour per week in ALEKS is counted as a homework assignment. It is divided into ten parts and credit is given for each part, like a test.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
I only require that students make some progress, but I check their accounts every Monday morning.
