ALEKS is great. The students love coming to the computer lab to work on their math skills. The program is great because our students can work on various skills at their own pace. I have seen an improvement in student motivation as well as with the math curriculum.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
2-3 days per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
How do you implement ALEKS?
It has been implemented with our Special Education (SPED) population that uses a combination of a classroom computer and a computer lab setting.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
Sometimes, but for the most part, students are encouraged to choose the area of their pie they would like to work on.
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
It is recommended that students use the program for 30 minutes a day, three times a week.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I have not, since I am the Technology Teacher.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
As often as possible if they have Internet access, which many of our students do not.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
With the same techniques used for their other subjects.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
Very little because many do not have Internet access.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
It is a percent of their final grade.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Yes, students are encouraged to work to their full potential in ALEKS.
