I am very pleased with ALEKS. It is a valuable tool for me to enhance my math instruction.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
I had difficulty differentiating my instruction to the different levels of student ability. I can now easily do that.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
How do you implement ALEKS?
I use it as a tool of differentiation. I pretest my students on a certain skill. If they have shown advanced skill, I have them utilize ALEKS while I work with the other students.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
No, I cover my curriculum and then students work on those skills with the help of ALEKS.
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
I have a set time after lunch for the whole class to use ALEKS, but will utilize it with individuals during class time.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I have focused more attention on differentiating instruction.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
Very little, since access to home computers is limited.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
I send introduction letters and give a crash course on how it works at the beginning of the year.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
I don't use it as a grade toward the report card, but I do utilize it as an awareness tool to parents.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Yes, I have a charting system.
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
After using ALEKS, students have seen more skills prior to standardized testing, and they enjoy the program.
