I use ALEKS with students who need a challenge in math. ALEKS allows students to learn at their own pace, especially for those who already understand what is being taught in the curriculum. Students are motivated to learn and often learn concepts above their grade level.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
I had a difficult time challenging my students who were exceptional in math.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
1 day per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
How do you implement ALEKS?
When students demonstrate that they are ready to use ALEKS, I show them how to use the program in a small group or individually.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
Students use ALEKS during guided math or if they finish other activities early.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
Students who have already mastered math material use ALEKS, while others in the class are learning and practicing our third grade curriculum.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
They do not use ALEKS at home.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
I do not.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
ALEKS is not used in my grading system.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
I have seen students become more motivated in math and learn material that will help them in years to come. Students are excited about their progress in ALEKS and enjoy seeing the graphs that are colorful and easy to interpret.
