Chris Chadd, Teacher
I have never used a more differentiated program in the classroom. I only wish there was ALEKS for all content areas! How amazing would that be? Keep up the fantastic work. I am more than 110 percent satisfied!

Scenario

How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
5 days per week.

What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
30 minutes.

Implementation

Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
No, students are able to choose their own topics.

How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
The students use ALEKS while I teach each grade level. While students are waiting for instruction, they work on ALEKS. In addition, they must use ALEKS 20 minutes nightly.

How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I am able to concentrate more fully on each individual student.

How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
Twenty minutes nightly.

How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
I remind the parents that ALEKS is an honor to be involved with; they are on board 100 percent.

Grading

Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
Yes, it is approximately 25 percent.

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
One grade weekly and one assessment weekly.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
No, simply rewarding kids by sending out ALEKS emails works and inspires them to achieve!

Learning Outcomes

Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
Students have met growth goals 100 percent of the time. Teaching a Gifted and Talented (GT) class can be very challenging as the students are all at differing levels. ALEKS affords me the time to work one-on-one with the kids while all students are having their needs met! I am very pleased and the kids are eager to progress to the next level.
