Implementation

How do you implement ALEKS?
We enroll the students that are behind according to Utah Performance Assessment System for Students (U-PASS) standards in an intervention class. They attend 3-4 days per week.

Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
We use ALEKS in the order of our textbooks.

How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
We set goals based on the math class' lesson plan so they are able to stay on task.

How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
ALEKS is used in addition to regular math instruction.

How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
If they are using ALEKS in place of homework, they are asked to use it 30 minutes a day. For those that are absent, they are asked to use it 30 minutes from home per day.

How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
We are allowing other students, in addition to our intervention students, to use subscriptions. For these parents that have shown interest and asked questions regarding the program, we have instructed them in how to see their student's progress from the student account.

Grading

Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
We do have one teacher that allows students to use ALEKS in place of regular homework. They are asked to use it 30 minutes per day.

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
It counts as their homework grade.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
The students that are enrolled in ALEKS for intervention are asked to make regular progress or they will need to make it up from home. We note the amount of time they are logged in and the number of topics they are mastering during this time.
