I use ALEKS with several of my gifted students who are accelerated in math. They are fifth grade boys and already attend an advanced program at the middle school several days a week. We use ALEKS to appropriately challenge these students at their own individual level and pace during their fifth grade class math time. They enjoy using the program.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Not having work that was challenging enough for these students.

On an individual basis with these three students.

Mathematics - MS/LV6, Middle School Course Math 1, Middle School Math Course 2
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
The boys use the computers just outside of the classroom, while the rest of the class is engaged in the regular lesson.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
The classroom teacher is able to easily differentiate for these students by using ALEKS.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
By getting them involved and having them observe what the students are doing in the program.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
The boys have mastered the concepts. They enjoy using ALEKS and are proud of their progress.

Use the program on a consistent basis and get feedback from the students.
