How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
3 days per week

What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
30 minutes

Implementation

How do you implement ALEKS?
ALEKS is a supplement to strengthen basic math skills.

Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
No.

How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
We use ALEKS in a math lab, so students work on ALEKS as they finish their other math work. They work at their own pace. They have to show they are making progress, and I have weekly quizzes for them.

How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
Teaching with ALEKS allows me to individualize the class. Every student works on something different, so I become more of an individual coach.

How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
I mention that they can use it at home, but do not require it.

How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
I send home letters at the beginning of the course and speak to parents at parent teacher conferences about using ALEKS at home.

Grading

Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
No.

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
20 percent of their grade is based on their participation in ALEKS and on quiz scores from ALEKS.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Yes, I measure the progress based on the history reports. Each student is different based on how much time they spend on ALEKS that week.

Learning Outcomes

Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
Students who have used ALEKS have shown a lot of progress in their math courses. Students who had been previously failing, have worked on ALEKS and strengthened their basic math skills. It helps the students build confidence.
