ALEKS is very helpful in supplementing my instruction. It also aids in filling gaps that students may have from previous math courses.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Gaps in conceptual understanding.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
1-2 days per week
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
How do you implement ALEKS?
ALEKS supplements the course book we currently use.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
We have one day a week set aside to do work in ALEKS. When a substitute is in the classroom, it allows me to continue with math education without giving basic worksheets.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I can adapt the lessons based on how well the class understands the concept.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
2-3 times per week.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
I send positive reports home.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
Its 35 percent of the regular grade.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
They must be working on it the entire period to earn their points.
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
Students enjoy using ALEKS and have improved their understanding of fractions and geometry. They work hard on completing their pie chart.
