So far my students are doing very well.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Students come into our classes with weaknesses in areas that range. This affects them more and more as the year continues.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
2 days per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
How do you implement ALEKS?
Algebra students attend half of their block period twice a week to reinforce skills they should already know instead of doing activities that day.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
Students are free to work at their own pace. There are two teachers in the room at the same time who walk around and assist the students as needed.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
Not everyone has a computer at home, so we have assigned homework on ALEKS only twice during the first quarter.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
Parents are aware of ALEKS and its benefits, and we encourage parents to have their children work on ALEKS in addition to what they do in school.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
Students are occasionally given a participation grade, but it is not consistent.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
Students are gaining confidence in their skills and can recognize material we are working on in class compared to material they are working on in ALEKS.
