Our challenge was differentiating instruction in order to address the needs of multiple-level students within a class.

How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
4-5 days per week.

What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
30 minutes.

Implementation

How do you implement ALEKS?
We implemented ALEKS in whole classes at the start of the school year.

Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
We follow the order they come in ALEKS, based on student need.

How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
Half of the students in the class receive direct instruction, while the other half works in ALEKS. Then they rotate.

How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
ALEKS allows for better small group instruction.

How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
Very few students use ALEKS at home, but they are all encouraged.

How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
We cultivate parent involvement by phone, email, and in face to face meetings.

Grading

Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
No.

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
ALEKS is 25 percent of the grade. The grade also includes participation, paper and pencil assignments, and monthly assessments. I expect to increase the ALEKS percentage of the grade in the future.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Students have a goal to learn 10 topics per week.

Learning Outcomes

Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
