With ALEKS, I am able to teach students in a manner that I would be unable to otherwise. I have two students who just arrived to our school and barely speak English. However, they are able to use the ALEKS Spanish option. They went from a five percent assessment to a 30 percent assessment in about a month! The students' confidence is increasing dramatically, as they are able to keep pace with their classmates.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Having students at different levels in the same class.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
1 day per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
Sometimes. The teacher directs the students to a particular pie section or lets the students work on the section they want.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
At least once a week.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
If you make it extra credit, you cultivate parental involvement.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
It is assigned as extra credit.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
It is their homework grade, which makes up 25 percent of their total grade.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
At least once a week.
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
