I have seen remarkable growth in my students with ALEKS. I love how user-friendly the program is. It is a very differentiated approach to learning, and in my opinion, a very effective program. I love the Explain button. I just can't say enough about how impressed I am with the program.

Our Math Support ninth graders were all given an ALEKS subscription and time to use the program.

The students use ALEKS first, and then practice charting and responding to math questions.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
Since we started late in the year, we went head first into ALEKS as soon as it was up and running.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
They use it at their own will.

Parents are invited to classes.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
No homework is assigned.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
It is 80 percent of their grade.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Yes, I monitor students' weekly change in their pie, as well as the overall change in their pie.
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
I have not received test scores back for my students, but I feel that they will have improved. I feel that the graduation tests that my students will take as juniors will be impacted by ALEKS as well. They feel that ALEKS helps them. Even though they fuss about doing it, they are proud of themselves when they see their pie increase.
Are there any best practices you would like to share with other teachers implementing ALEKS?
I believe that the motivation aspect is the key to ALEKS. Students will work when they see their own progress.
