The students really like ALEKS. It is really helping to build our students' math skills. ALEKS is able to fill in the students' gaps in math knowledge and bring them up to grade level very fast. I see students who are in remedial math start taking grade level math classes and earn high grades. Plus, they feel that there is no judgment from other students since they work at their own pace and can take time to really learn the concepts.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
There were low Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS) scores, low knowledge of basic math skills, and little understanding of higher level math concepts.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
5 days per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
Pre-Algebra, Algebra, and then Geometry.
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
We are online so students work at home.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
All done at home.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
We give parents the student's login info. That way they can check on their student's progress, too.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
Our Special Education students can earn up to three core math credits using ALEKS. Our general education students can earn elective math credit.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Yes, 30 topics a week.
