Ingrid Tillman, Teacher
I found it very easy and rewarding to be able to use ALEKS for students who could not handle text-based math materials. I conduct the "distance learning" textbook-based program in which students get the pertinent materials from me, study at home, and bring the homework to me for evaluation and assessment. ALEKS is a great asset for my math program. I have seen students thrive with ALEKS and be able to do things they weren't able to do before, like Algebra 1, Preparation for General Educational Development (GED), and Business Math. They are very happy about this opportunity and the possibility to do it at home and at school.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
They usually were not able to work with the textbooks I had for them.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
3 days per week.
How do you implement ALEKS?
I just put them online with it.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
I use the order in which ALEKS presents them.
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
The students use this at home for their math homework.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
Once a day.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
I let the parents know if the student is not up-to-date.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
I use the percentage ALEKS presents or get the feedback that a student successfully passed the GED.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
They are responsible for finishing the ALEKS course in order to get credit from me.
