Kathleen Tonelli, Special Education Teacher
After I started using ALEKS and went through the topics with a student, I was impressed with the ease of the program. I have found that ALEKS provides excellent support for students who want to increase their skills, practice their skills, and/or prepare for state testing.

What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Students in some instances were not able to create a connection with the teacher, their skills were low, and block scheduling did not always allow for students to take a continuous math course. This sometimes affected students' state testing scores.

How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
5 days per week.

What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
80 minutes.

How do you implement ALEKS?
I am a rotating Inclusion Teacher, so I do not have a classroom. I use ALEKS as a skill builder/refresher course for individual students.

Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
No, we go through topics that interest the student.

How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
I use ALEKS as a one-to-one tool with the support of a tutor.

How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
Not yet.

How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
Parents receive updates on student progress through emails, progress reports, and report cards.

Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
For my student, ALEKS progress represents 100 percent of her grade.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Progress is different for each student, so our progress varies each day.

Learning Outcomes

Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
I have seen my student make progress while working out topics on a daily basis. Her progress is slow, but she has repeated opportunities to work on certain skills so she will eventually see improvement.
