Suzette Wilkins, Special Education and Math Teacher
It is a program that works well for my needs. I use it in general math to give individual instruction to the students at their level of performance, and to help find holes in their understanding of math concepts. We also use it school-wide to assist struggling students. I have been very happy with ALEKS.

What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Our students either have poor math understanding in the classroom, or class was progressing too fast for the student to grasp the concept and stay current with the class.

How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
4 days per week.

What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
10-20 minutes.

How do you implement ALEKS?
I set ALEKS up myself in the classroom.

Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?

How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
ALEKS is used at the end of class.

How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
It allows me to help the students on questions that they do not understand.

How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
ALEKS is the only homework they are given.

How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
We involve parents as the individual situation of the student warrants.

Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
It is not assigned as such for the classroom, but as needed for individuals.

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
ALEKS makes up about 10 percent of a student's grade.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
No, as it is self-paced. However, they are graded on progress.

Learning Outcomes

Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
The students are positive about ALEKS. The benefits are proportional to effort.
