What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
Our students were testing below grade level, and were experiencing difficulty in learning their multiplication tables and algebra. They were also having difficulty passing the math portion of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS? 3-5 days per week. What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used? 15-30 minutes. Implementation
How do you implement ALEKS?
I encourage students to use it as a supplement and reinforcement. Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order? No. How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS? I had to add ALEKS into my regular teaching approach. How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home? 4-5 times a week. How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS? We let parents know what a great program it is, and how student test scores have improved after using it. Grading
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
ALEKS is only a part of a student's homework responsibility at around 10-30 percent. How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system? 10-15 percent of their grade. Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS? We measure progress by how many topics have been learned per semester. Learning Outcomes
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
If students use ALEKS consistently, I see test scores go up, increased confidence, and increased mastery of basic math facts. My students are very motivated by ALEKS. |
