I have had a positive experience with ALEKS.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
It is always difficult to find a math program that fits each individual student.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
4-5 days per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
How do you implement ALEKS?
The students either use it as a stand-alone program, or as part of an integrated math program.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
Students work at their own pace in their own chosen order.
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
I ask students to work for 30-60 minutes a day in ALEKS.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I use it primarily as a supplement to another math program.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
I go over the program with the parents, and I encourage them to check their student's pie progress.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
My students complete all of their work from home.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
ALEKS can count for 30-100 percent of a student's grade, depending on whether they use it as a supplement or as a stand-alone program.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
I check their work and increase the pressure if they haven't completed enough for the week.
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
Students that love the program shows their progress.
Are there any best practices you would like to share with other teachers implementing ALEKS?
I would highly recommend the teacher trainings; it's a good orientation for the program.
