I use the ALEKS program as an intervention tool for students that are struggling. The students have been able to move a lot more quickly using ALEKS. The students like the independence of being able to work on the topics of their choice during math.
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
It was very difficult to individualize the instruction.

I use it as an elective class outside of their regular math class.

The students self select their topics.

The students must complete a certain number of topics before the class period has ended.

I am able to cover more material in a less amount of time.

They are not required.

The students must improve their math grades before exiting the ALEKS class.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
No homework is assigned through ALEKS.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
The students get two points for every topic of completion during the class period.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Yes, a certain number of topics are given to each student each day to complete before the period is over.
