Rebecca Coplan, Interventionist
The teachers at our school who use ALEKS faithfully have only wonderful things to say about it. In addition, when asked students if they did ALEKS last year, they said yes and seemed to feel positively about it. From our data last year, we saw student growth; we are looking forward to having consistency this year so we can see even greater gains in our students.

Scenario

What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
With basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).

How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
5 days per week.

What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
30 minutes.

Implementation

How do you implement ALEKS?
ALEKS is used as an intervention for students who score "Far Below" or "Approach" on the state test.

Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
I follow the order of our curriculum map.

How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
This is a pull-out class to assist struggling students. The students spend time on ALEKS, and I provide some small group instruction.

How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I use ALEKS data to see what areas the students need increased intervention on, and then teach accordingly.

How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
It is not required.

Grading

Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
No.

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
Students will not be receiving grades from me.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
No, if a student is struggling to make progress, small group intervention is done so that progress can be made.
