Paula Martin, Teacher
I use ALEKS in my intervention class with my middle school students. The students are able to navigate through each section with little assistance and enjoy the challenge that comes with it. The data ALEKS collects is invaluable to me and our administration! ALEKS is also used by our Special Education teacher in her homeroom because of the program's ability to adjust to each student's levels and needs.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
5 days per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
I let the students choose what topics to work on.
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
ALEKS is the only curriculum I use in my intervention class.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
Students are given the option to, but they are not required to work in the program from home.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
Support is cultivated by sending home student reports.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
No, ALEKS is not part of the homework.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
My class does not have a grading system requirement. However, in the Special Education class, it is used for grades and staffing of our students.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
ALEKS is a required class taken before school, but many do not attend on a regular basis.
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
With the students who are dedicated users, their scores improved on a steady incline, which is always something we want to see! They like the ease of use and the many subjects for them to choose from.
