I see my students' progress in our math curriculum by using ALEKS as a supplemental program. They feel like they have accomplished something and can actually visualize it with their pie! I love how ALEKS is informative and detailed in each area that my students are successful or need help in. It makes my job of progress monitoring a lot easier!
What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
We needed a supplemental program that the kids could access at school and at home.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
4 days per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
How do you implement ALEKS?
We have a group review of the program (how it works, what to expect, etc.), and then the kids try it on their own. We now use it every day in class as a supplemental program.
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
We have math class for 90 minutes in which the kids take turns on the computers every 20 minutes for an hour.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I use ALEKS to explain concepts that the kids may not understand from me.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
I encourage it but not sure if parents do.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
We send letters home.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
No, it is not.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
Yes, the students make daily goals of accomplishing at least three concepts in their class.

Are there any best practices you would like to share with other teachers implementing ALEKS?
It takes time to get used to the program, and the best way to figure it out is to just play with it.
