Kelly Gallagher, Teacher
So far, I am very pleased with the information and level of challenge for my students with ALEKS.

What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
My students haven't had enough time in the past to practice and study their skills.

How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
5 days per week.

What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
25 minutes.

How do you implement ALEKS?
Students in need of extra support in math were identified and pulled out of another class to support their math learning.

Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
No, students are allowed to choose.

How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
ALEKS is a separate class.

How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I did not have to modify my teaching approach.

How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
My students are often encouraged, but not required, to work on ALEKS at home.

How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
Parents are notified via a letter and given opportunity to learn about ALEKS in a training session.

Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
As we built a flexible class dedicated entirely to ALEKS, it is only graded within the program and specific class.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
It is individually based on a student conference with the ALEKS math teacher.

Learning Outcomes

Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
Students are completing basic skills and developing their background knowledge well. As always, some students are happy and some are not.
