What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
We struggled with how to remediate for a wide variety of skill levels.
How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
5 days per week.
What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
How do you implement ALEKS?
It is used during the RtI block, so it has never been implemented into the curriculum.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
We use ALEKS during an RtI block at the end of the day.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
By knowing what skills struggling students are working on, I can point out places where our curriculum matches what they have been doing in ALEKS.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
Students work on ALEKS at home weekly.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
I have not involved parents.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
For some students it is their entire homework load.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
I do not grade ALEKS work.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
I do not require regular progress in ALEKS.
Since using ALEKS, please describe the learning outcomes or progress you have seen.
Students get really excited about ALEKS and progress quickly through the slices of their pies. They like to see their pies fill up and are always checking for progress.
Are there any best practices you would like to share with other teachers implementing ALEKS?
Use ALEKS early and often.
