Craig McAllister, Math Teacher
I have used ALEKS as a supplement to our existing curriculum. This is the second year we have used it with the seventh and eighth graders. ALEKS is effective depending on the individual student. Some students take right off, while others I fight to keep on task with it as they get bored.

What challenges did the class or school face in math prior to using ALEKS?
We needed more variety.

How many days per week is class time dedicated to ALEKS?
1 hour per week.

What is the average length of a class period when ALEKS is used?
53 minutes.

How do you implement ALEKS?
We decided to use ALEKS once a week.

Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?

How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
I have students finish their regular assignments, then work on ALEKS.

How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
Upon using ALEKS, I am able to skip content that has been well covered in previous years.

How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
I encourage my students to work on ALEKS every week or two.

Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
As it is a lab project, we do not grade ALEKS usage.

How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
We use ALEKS for quiz grades.

Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
In general, we require students to make regular progress.
