Our students' skill practice were weak.

2 days per week.

How do you implement ALEKS?
We piloted ALEKS with selected sixth, seventh, and eighth graders last year, but this year all sixth graders are using ALEKS.
Do you cover ALEKS concepts in a particular order?
Yes. We have it aligned to the Connected Math Program 2.
How do you structure your class period with ALEKS?
Our students use ALEKS for 30 minutes, twice per week. Sometimes students put a star on the board every time they add something to their pie. Other times we have various competitions about growth and adding new items to the pie.
How did you modify your regular teaching approach as a result of ALEKS?
I haven't modified my regular teaching approach.
How often are students required or encouraged to work on ALEKS at home?
We require a minimum of 30 minutes per week.
How do you cultivate parental involvement and support for ALEKS?
We send update letters home to parents.
Is ALEKS assigned to your students as all or part of their homework responsibilities? If so, what part of the total homework load is it?
ALEKS is about 20 percent of their homework responsibility.
How do you incorporate ALEKS into your grading system?
It is part of the skill practice aspect of their grade, which makes up 20 percent of the grade.
Do you require students to make regular amounts of progress in ALEKS?
We set deadlines for each unit to be completed. Those students who don't meet the deadline have sessions after school to catch up. Students are also held accountable for the amount of time they are on ALEKS.

Holding kids accountable for when units of material are due to make sure they are accomplishing the necessary material on ALEKS.
