Title I: Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Education Agencies
Funding Category: At-Risk Students
Description: The Title I program was designed to ensure that all students have a fair opportunity to obtain a high quality education and reach proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and assessments. Federal funds are currently allocated through four statutory formulas that are based primarily on census poverty estimates and the cost of education in each state.
Eligibility: The Department of Education allocates appropriated funds to local educational agencies (LEAs) through participating State Educational Agencies. For more information, please see the grant eligibility page.
