Description: The Achelis Foundation devotes over forty percent of its annual budget to programs and organizations that have a plan to improve education in New York City and northern New Jersey. Believing that accountability and competition can contribute to the improvement of urban schools, the Foundation has funded charter schools, voucher programs, scholarships to parochial schools, and research that examines the impact of various factors on K-12 educational performance. The Foundations also have an interest in helping young people to realize their dreams of a college education.

Eligibility: All nonprofit organizations based in New York City and northern New Jersey that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and fall within one of the six program areas of the Foundation are welcome to submit an inquiry or proposal letter by regular mail.
