ACE Credit-Recommended ALEKS Courses

Students can receive college credit for American Council on Education (ACE) credit-recommended ALEKS courses. To receive credit, a student must assess at 70% or greater on the course material for an ACE credit-recommended ALEKS course. Once ALEKS has approved the student's completed work in ALEKS, a badge for the course will be issued to you through Credly, a leading digital credential provider. After accepting the badge, you can use Credly’s Acclaim platform to send an official academic transcript directly to a college you are interested in attending. The transcript can then be used to request up to three semester hours of college credit per course at educational institutions that grant credit for ACE credit-recommended courses.

To request approval of your course work in ALEKS, please open this form in Adobe Reader: ACE College Credit Form

Instructions to receive ACE Credit for an ACE Credit-Recommended ALEKS Course

  1. Create an ALEKS Independent Use account and register in an ALEKS ACE credit-recommended course. Work in your course until you have reached 70% or greater progress in the Learning Mode. At this point you will see an option to "Request an ACE Knowledge Check" on the left-hand side of your homepage. You must assess at 70% or greater on the ACE Knowledge Check in order to qualify for ACE credit. The ACE Knowledge Check must be completed within three hours of the time it is started and requires you to agree to and abide by the principles of Academic Integrity, which prohibit receiving help or using resources of any kind during the Knowledge Check.
  2. The ACE Knowledge Check will require you to use Respondus LockDown Browser. The version of LockDown Browser specifically for ALEKS should be installed on your computer before you begin the Knowledge Check. Information on ALEKS and Respondus can be found here: Respondus LockDown Browser for ALEKS
A version of LockDown Browser specifically for ALEKS must be used: other versions of LockDown Browser may not work for this purpose. Downloads and System Requirements can be found here: Requirements
  3. Submit the request form (above) to access your transcript.
  4. ALEKS will receive the transcript request and verify if you have assessed at 70% or greater on the ACE Knowledge Check and if all other requirements for ACE credit have been met. This usually takes ALEKS approximately three business days.
    • If the request is approved, you will receive an email from the Acclaim platform with an invitation to accept your badge. If you don’t receive an email within a few days, check your spam folder.
    • If your request is denied because your score on the Knowledge Check was below 70%, you can continue to work in ALEKS until you have achieved 70% or greater on a new ACE Knowledge Check, then resubmit a transcript request following the steps above.
    • The work for ACE credit in any given ALEKS course must be completed within 12 months of taking the Initial Knowledge Check. If the request for approval is received 12 months or more after completion of the Initial Knowledge Check, a new comprehensive Knowledge Check will be scheduled, and approval will not be granted until the requestor has again scored 70% or higher on the ACE Knowledge Check.
  5. The ACE transcript can be used to request college credit at educational institutions that grant credit for ACE credit-recommended courses. Make sure that you use the Acclaim platform to send a transcript directly to the school rather than sending a copy yourself, as many colleges will not accept official transcripts by email from students.

Academic Integrity

Anyone applying for credit under the ACE program is assumed to conform to the principles of academic integrity. In particular, the student in whose name credit is requested must have done all work in ALEKS themselves: no other person may do the work for them. On assessments (“Knowledge Checks”), the student may not have any assistance whatsoever, whether human, online, from websites or internet resources, or from any printed or written resource. The conditions of an ALEKS assessment should be the same as a proctored examination. A calculator can be used only when the built-in ALEKS calculator is active; at other times no computing device can be used.
